WET MORNINGS, GREASY ROADS
Automatic full-time four-wheel drive with a brake-actuated limited slip differential. That is not a badge on the tailgate, it is the thing that keeps the front end honest on a wet side road in February and on the gravel pull-off that has turned to soup. Short and long arm rear suspension on coil springs, gas-pressurized shocks, front and rear anti-roll bars.
The rear window has a wiper with a heated wiper park and a defroster, so the glass actually clears instead of freezing the blade to the paint. Fog lights for the mornings the valley is socked in. Auto on/off headlamps with delay-off so you are not walking away from a lit car. Deep tinted glass and a full cloth headliner keep it quieter than the price suggests.

Turbocharged four paired to a six-speed automatic with SelectShift, a 57 litre tank, and a block heater already fitted for the cold mornings. It is an unfussy, well-understood drivetrain. Cruise control on the wheel, compass, driver information centre, outside temperature gauge, and a manual tilt and telescoping column so you can actually get comfortable.
Inside: cloth seats, front and rear centre armrests, rear cupholders, front map lights, illuminated glove box, six speakers with streaming audio, and Ford's SecuriCode keypad on the door pillar, which is worth more than it sounds like the first time you go to the beach without your keys.
