DESCRIPTION
2020 Hyundai Kona Luxury AWD — Sunroof with Sunshade, Heated Front Seats with 8-Way Power Driver's Seat, Heated Leather Steering Wheel, Adaptive Cruise Control
Fully inspected. Every vehicle gets a detailed mechanical and safety inspection before it's sold.
Read the CARFAX yourself, free, right here on this page. No name, no email and no form required. We believe you should be able to see the vehicle's history upfront.
Somebody mentions Tofino on a Wednesday, and by Friday it has somehow become a plan with a packing list attached. It's a long way across the island for a vehicle this easy to park, and that's rather the appeal. The express open-and-close glass sunroof slides and tilts over the front row, and the sunshade pulls across when the light coming off the water stops being charming, so you get the sky when you want it and not when you don't. Deep tinted glass takes care of the rest of the afternoon. Adaptive cruise control helps maintain your selected speed and following distance through the long middle part of the drive, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist is designed to help identify vehicles and obstacles ahead and may intervene in certain situations, and Blind-Spot Collision Warning can warn you when another vehicle settles into the lane alongside. Six speakers and streaming audio handle whatever gets agreed on, the 50-litre tank keeps the stops to the ones you'd choose, and the driver's seat is eight-way power with two-way power lumbar, which is the difference between arriving comfortable and arriving ready to stand up for a while.
The first proper frost of the year tends to arrive without warning, usually on a morning you're already behind. This is where the all-wheel drive stops being a line on a spec sheet. It's an automatic full-time system working through an electronic transfer case, and the brake-actuated limited slip differential helps send the effort towards whichever wheels still have something to grip, which is a comfort on a wet hill with leaves on it. The heated front bucket seats and the heated leather steering wheel sort out the first few minutes, the heated power side mirrors clear their own condensation while you're still finding your gloves, and the rear window has its own wiper and defroster so the view out the back is honest before you move. Fog lights are there for the mornings the cloud settles onto the highway, and the auto on-and-off projector beam headlamps come on as the light goes and switch themselves off after you've walked away.
Then there's the Sunday you finally deal with the camping bin that has been in the hallway since August, along with the bikes nobody has ridden since. The liftgate opens onto a cargo area that holds more than the shape of the vehicle lets on, and folding the 60/40 rear bench forward opens the back right up when something simply isn't going in any other way. A rigid cargo cover pulls across whatever you'd rather not advertise through the glass, there's concealed storage under the cargo floor for the straps and the bungee cords, and the cargo space lights mean you're not sorting the back out by feel once the afternoon gets away from you. Under that floor there's a proper compact spare mounted inside rather than a tire repair kit, which is the sort of provision you hope never to open and are very glad to own on the one evening you do. Backing out onto the road again, the back-up camera shows you what's behind and Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Warning can alert you to traffic crossing behind the vehicle, and there are rear child safety locks for whoever is in the back.
The rest of the week it just gets on with things quietly, which is most of what anyone wants. Automatic air conditioning holds the cabin where you set it instead of asking to be adjusted at every light, and cabin air filtration keeps the inside of the car fresher than the inside of everyone's jacket in November. The driver information centre has an outside temperature gauge for the small satisfaction of watching it drop, there's a covered floor console and a mini overhead console with storage, two 12-volt outlets, two seatback storage pockets, a rear cupholder and front and rear centre armrests, and an illuminated glove box for the evenings you're looking for something in the dark. The column tilts and telescopes, there's a footrest on the driver's side, and the day-night rearview mirror takes the edge off oncoming headlights. An immobilizer and a perimeter alarm are fitted, curtain airbags cover the first and second rows, and the driver monitoring alert can let you know if it thinks your focus has started to wander, which is a fair enough question at the end of a long day. If there's anything on this list you'd like confirmed before you make the trip in, give us a call and we'll check it against the vehicle itself.
We'll be straight with you on warranty: a 2020 is past Hyundai's five-year or 100,000 km powertrain coverage, and the price is set with that in mind. You'll see a generic "Balance of Factory Warranty" line in the equipment list on this page that the model year doesn't support, so please set it aside. Extended warranty options are available if you'd like some protection going forward, and we're happy to walk you through what each one actually covers before you decide whether you want any of it.
